Free Workshop – Measure J Senior Discount

CRPD is granting a senior discount on the Measure J parcel tax for qualified property owners. Learn more about Measure J, the discount and receive application assistance at this free informational workshop. Reserve your space at the front desk and be sure to bring all required documentation.

Sunriver Par Course Ribbon-cutting and Tree Planting

A Community Enhancement Fund project in partnership with CRPD, The Sacramento Tree Foundation and the Sunriver Neighborhood Association. Join us as we celebrate this wonderful new addition. A Par Course is an outdoor exercise track or course, especially for joggers, equipped with a series of stations along the way where one is to stop and perform a specific exercise.

Plant trees and celebrate the opening of the new par course at Sunriver Park on Saturday, April 8. Tree planting starts at 8:30 a.m with the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12 noon. This project is supported by the City of Rancho Cordova’s Community Enhancement Fund and CRPD, and is in partnership with the Sunriver Neighborhood Association and the Sacramento Tree Foundation.

Halloween at Hagan

Cordova Recreation and Park District (CRPD) hosts the annual Halloween at Hagan. This family friendly event is great for all ages. Admission is $2 per person (3 and older) and free for children 2 and under. Visit the event page for more details.

Picnic Reservations Open

Picnic reservations begin Wednesday, March 1. Daily use fees for reserved areas range from $75 to $200 depending on the capacity and size of the picnic area. New for 2017, permits for alcohol will be an additional $25 to the rental fee. Alcohol in the parks is only allowed in the reservable spaces and with a permit. Parks and picnic areas not listed below are unreserved and available on a first-come, first-served basis. CRPD recommends reservations for the following parks and picnic areas in advance:

NEW! Beginning January 1, 2017 it will be a requirement to obtain a permit to have an inflatable of any type in any of the CRPD parks. The permit application can be found on the website as well as any of our CRPD facilities. There will be a fee of $15 and required certificate of insurance. Non-permitted inflatables will not be allowed in the parks.

CRPD’s second #contest closes today! Snap a photograph and join the contest. Winners are awarded gift certificates for CRPD programs and rentals in addition to having their photos published in our Recreation Guide and on our website.

Saving energy is good for the environment. It’s also a good way to save money on your utility bills each month. This workshop will help consumers learn how to conserve energy. ACC staff member can check your bills, help you fill out paperwork, talk to the utility company for you and answer your questions and/or concerns.

Join the Senior Legal Hotline as they teach you about Social Security Retirement benefits. Specifically, they will be discussing eligibility rules such as what it means to receive benefits before, during, or after normal retirement age and eligibility requirements to receive spouse’s, divorced spouse’s or widow’s benefits.

Free Presentation: CARE & FERA Assistance Programs

Presented by the Asian Community Center as part of the TEAM Collaborative.

This workshop will help consumers learn about the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) and Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA). Everyday expenses can affect some households more than others, the CARE and FERA programs can provide a monthly discount on electric rates for low income household relief.

Teen Advisory Board Information and Social Meeting

This is an informational meeting for parents and teens interested in joining the board. The purpose of the Teen Advisory Board is to engage area teens in outdoor recreational activities and the community. Board members help develop and plan teen activities, events and trips. Anyone interested in joining the board should contact Rashad Williams at rwilliams@crpd.com.

Princess and Super Hero Camp

Participants, ages 5-11,  will create their own costume whether it be a princess or a superhero. On the last day all participants will take part in a tea party then go outside to battle superheroes. A $10 material fee is due the first day of camp.

My First Video Game (Camp)

Younger game developers,  ages 5-9, work with a partner to conceive, design and build their original 2D “bouncy ball” computer game. Basic design and coding techniques are introduced. Students complete fun activities like creating characters that bounce around the game screen, as well as each other.

Students ages 8-12  work with a partner and create unique levels, characters and an original plot line. Working with design, animation and programming tools, students will create a fun and engaging platform adventure.

Students ages 8-12 work with a partner to learn basic principles of video game design. Working with Multimedia Fusion and a partner, you’ll learn the conditional coding necessary to make your video game creations work.

Working with PC Computers, participants ages 8-12 will learn skills that help with computer drawing, character creation and movement and character interaction. In small groups or with a partner, students will focus on learning introductory computer animation techniques and will create characters and short animated sequences.

San Francisco Moving Movie Tour

San Francisco has always had a love affair with the movies. The unmatched beauty of the city, combined with its riches of instantly recognizable structures have attracted filmmakers from around the world. View movie clips from different movies, including “The Jazz Singer,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Dirty Harry,” and “The Birds,” then match them with locations right outside the windows of the bus. Our guide, Craig Smith, will take you on a comprehensive and fun motor coach tour of the movies made in and about San Francisco. Empire Mine State Historic Park

Located in the Western Sierra Nevada, this 856-acre park contains many of the original mine buildings, the owner’s cottage and the restored gardens and grounds as well as the entrance to 367 miles of abandoned and flooded shafts and tunnels. Guests will be taken on a private tour of the Bourn Cottage, Clubhouse and historic gardens. Afterwards, enjoy a hosted lunch at Tofanelli’s in historic downtown Grass Valley. Join us for this spring adventure into the countryside as we visit the family-run Achadinha (pronounced Osh-a-deen-a) Cheese Farm and Creamery near Petaluma. Naturally there will be a farmhouse cheese tasting before we hit the road. Hagan Community Barn Fundraiser

Join us for a day of activities, music and fun at the Hagan Community Barn as we raise money to support the feed and care of the animals. Bring the family to enjoy free music, games and animal interactions. Family Swim Night

A family night at the pool, with music and fun times. Enjoy a chance to challenge your skills on The Aqua Challenge obstacle course.

The Great Outdoors – A Night Under the Stars

Participants will be able to enjoy the great outdoors without having to travel far. This free event provides the opportunity for families to camp out in Hagan Community Park. In addition to camping, families can experience hiking, fishing and stories around the campfire. Equipment available to use. Preregistration required.

Children of all ages have the opportunity to touch, climb on and explore an expanse of exciting machines and unique vehicles.  The first hour of the event is horn-free to accommodate children with special needs and sensitive ears.  Visit the event page for more details.
