Frequently Asked Questions

About Us

When was Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD) established?

CRPD was established in 1958 to provide parks and recreation services to the residents of eastern Sacramento County. In the years since, CRPD’s boundaries have expanded and we now serve over 128,000 residents within Sacramento County including the City of Rancho Cordova and the communities of Gold River, Larchmont, Mather, Riviera East, Rosemont East and additional unincorporated portions of Sacramento County.

What does CRPD do?

CRPD provides quality recreational programs, parks and services for our residents. We work in partnership with other government agencies, school districts, businesses, community and neighborhood groups, athletic leagues and residents to identify and meet the recreational needs of our diverse and growing district. We own and operate over 600 acres of open space, over 43 parks and facilities, including aquatics. We offer hundreds of classes, camps and special events each year. Our fields, courts and pools host thousands of athletes in league play, tournaments and recreational play.

Are you affiliated of the City of Rancho Cordova?

CRPD is an independent special district overseen by an independently elected Board of Directors. While CRPD’s boundaries include a large area of Rancho Cordova, we are not directly associated with the City of Rancho Cordova. CRPD works in partnership with all public agencies within our boundaries, including, the County of Sacramento, the City of Rancho Cordova, the Cordova Community Council as well as the Folsom Cordova, San Juan, Sacramento, and Elk Grove Unified School Districts.

What is a special district?

A special district is formed by a local community to meet a specific need. CRPD was established over 60 years ago to provide park and recreation services to residents in Sacramento County east of the City of Sacramento. As a special district, CRPD is funded through property taxes and assessments and acts independently to provide quality recreation and park programs and services for the residents within our boundaries. There are more than 100 special districts in Sacramento County.

What is CRPD’s Tax ID Number?

CRPD’s tax id # is 94-6000529.

Board of Directors

When does the CRPD Board of Directors meet?

The Board of Directors meets on the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. in the Chambers located on the first floor of 2729 Prospect Park Drive in Rancho Cordova, unless otherwise noted on the agenda. Board meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas and board-approved minutes are available online or in person from the district office.

What does the Board of Directors do?

As CRPD’s governing body, the Board of Directors is responsible for the budget and for setting policies that safeguard the vitality of CRPD. The five non-partisan members of the Board of Directors are elected to four-year terms by residents located within CRPD’s boundaries. The elected board is held accountable to the following laws that govern public officials: The Brown Act, California Public Records Act, FPPC Reporting Requirements and biannual ethics training.

How can I communicate with the CRPD Board of Directors?

There are two main ways to communicate with the Board of Directors. Board members can be reached directly by email. There is also a public comment period during every Board meeting where the community can address CRPD issues. The Board can listen to comments, but state law prohibits the Board of Directors from discussing items that are not included in the agenda. To have an item added to the agenda, please submit a written request to the Clerk of the Board by 5 p.m. three weeks prior to the meeting.

How do I apply to be on the Board of Directors?

CRPD’s Board of Directors is elected by residents of the district during the general election. There are five seats on the board. The four-year terms are staggered with general elections occurring during even-numbered years. For more information, contact Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections at 916-875-6451.
