About CRPD

Established in 1958, Cordova Recreation & Park District is an independent special district governed by an independently elected five-member Board of Directors.

Special districts are local government agencies that provide specific essential services. Cordova Recreation & Park District provides quality recreational programs, parks and services for communities within Sacramento County including the City of Rancho Cordova and the unincorporated areas of Gold River, Larchmont, Mather, Riviera East and Rosemont.

Districting Background

The Board of Directors is currently elected through “at-large” elections where residents vote for all candidates running for a Board seat, and the elected Directors represent the entire District.

Over the past year, Cordova Recreation & Park District has explored the option to change to a district-based electoral system for selecting Directors of the Board. In this system, candidates will run in one of five separate areas of the District. Voters in each area then elect their Board member, who must also live in that area.

Transitioning to this new system will ensure compliance with the California Voting Rights Act and help encourage a diverse set of perspectives on the Board of Directors. To ensure equal representation for all neighborhoods, the Board of Directors waited until after the 2020 United States Census to begin this transition.

Transition Timeline

The public is welcome and encouraged to participate in the districting process. The Board of Directors will be making decisions regarding districting primarily during regular Board meetings, which are open to the public and include opportunities for the public to provide comments. All Public Hearings will be located at the Chambers at 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The Board of Directors adopted Resolution 19/20-40, a Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Cordova Recreation & Park District of Intention to Transition from At-Large to By-District Elections and Setting Forth the Process for the Transition.

The Proposed Sequence of Elections for the November 2022 General Election is: Districts 1, 2, and 5.

Draft Maps

In accordance with Elections Code § 10010, the draft maps and proposed voting divisions up for election in 2022 must be published at least seven days prior to the first Public Hearing.
